Winding through the hills of Washington we passed the 2,500 mile marker. These collections of rocks had become a staple of trail life, occasional reminders that our slow persistence was paying off. Hiker art installations set against nature’s canvas.
With each step north excitement and apprehension grew in equal measure. It had become increasingly difficult to ignore that this grand adventure, once so endless, was indeed not so.
