Bridge Of The Gods
Cascade Locks is another one of those PCT milestones. Home of the Bridge of the Gods and the Oregon / Washington border.
The namesake bridge is not the steel one present today but an ancient land-bridge that once spanned the Columbia River. We descended the last hills of Oregon and were welcomed into Cascade Locks by a mural painted on an aged and weatherworn concrete abutment . If there is any gods to judge our work I can only assume they would laugh at our imitation.
At this point in our journey North our minds turned to Canada. Entering the last State on this 2,650 mile adventure it no longer seemed so far away. A certainty dawned on us, the Northern Terminus became a matter of when rather than if.
I look back at these photos of Kim and I and see us aglow. We’d found a life on trail and living it was the easiest thing in the world.
